Overview
Nightfall Protocol is a squad-based tactical horror game set inside Meridian Station — a classified deep-ocean research facility that has gone catastrophically silent. You command a four-person Crisis Response Unit sent to establish contact and extract survivors. What you find is something that defies every scientific framework you were trained in.
Where most horror games strip you of power, Nightfall Protocol gives you a full tactical toolkit — and then makes you question whether any of it matters. Your squad has guns, medical supplies, and specialized training. The entity inside Meridian Station does not care. The terror of Nightfall Protocol is not resource scarcity — it's the dawning realization that competence is not enough.
Key Features
Sanity System
Each squad member has independent sanity meters that affect perception, accuracy, and eventually — reality itself. Managing fear is as important as managing ammunition.
Dynamic Lighting
Meridian Station's power grid is unstable. Darkness is your constant companion — and the entity's natural habitat. Manage power resources carefully.
Tactical Squad Control
Direct four specialists — Medic, Engineer, Tactical, and Analyst — each with unique abilities and personal story arcs affected by your decisions.
Environmental Storytelling
Hundreds of audio logs, research notes, and environmental clues piece together what happened at Meridian Station — and what's still happening.
Deep Ocean Setting
The crushing pressure of the deep ocean becomes a mechanical metaphor. Claustrophobic corridors, flooded sections, and the ever-present hum of failing bulkheads.
Permadeath Mode
Optional Iron Protocol mode: squad members who die are permanently gone. Their deaths shape the narrative — and the final boss encounter.
What Happened at Meridian Station
"Day 47. The entity does not move through space the way we do. It doesn't enter rooms.
It's just — suddenly there. Dr. Vasquez says it's a localized topology collapse.
I say it's something that shouldn't exist, and we made it exist,
and now it's very, very angry."
— Research Director's personal log, timestamp corrupted
Meridian Station was a classified joint venture between three governments and a private aerospace company. Its official purpose was deep-ocean geological surveying. Its actual purpose — as your Analyst will piece together from corrupted server logs — was a project called THRESHOLD: an attempt to create a stable wormhole inside a pressurized underwater environment.
THRESHOLD did not create a wormhole. It created a door. And something on the other side of that door noticed. Nightfall Protocol's horror works because the entity is never fully explained — it is experienced. The deeper your team goes into Meridian Station, the more the line between the facility and the thing it unleashed begins to blur.

Critical Reception
"The most terrifying game of 2023. Nightfall Protocol does something remarkable: it makes competence feel inadequate. That is genuinely new in horror."
"The sound design of Nightfall Protocol is not background — it is a narrative instrument of the highest order. The entity's audio signature alone is award-worthy."
"A masterclass in tension management. Nightfall Protocol never lets you feel safe — and through its length, it never repeats the same trick twice."
"Horror gaming at its absolute best. The sanity system is the most innovative fear mechanic in years, and the permadeath mode adds a layer of dread that stays with you."
